OUR PORTFOLIO OF WORK

OUR HARDWOOD INSTALLATION PROCESS

Floor SURE Flooring has over 40 years of experience and the qualified installers you need to perform a very high-quality installation. To do so we follow the 7-step industry-standard process for installations:

Ready the In-Home Hardwood Material
Hardwood must adjust to the temperature and moisture level in your home. This requires it to “breathe” for 2-14 days inside your home, not in the garage or basement, before installation, depending on its size and the time of year.
Remove and Measure the Trim
Unless you’re installing hardwood in a new construction home, you need to remove all existing quarter round trim and any appliances, or furniture. If we’re replacing carpet, there may not be any quarter round, so the area needs to be measured and trim needs to be installed around the bottom of the room. Our carpenters will need to remove any trim and finalize measuring for any new trim needed.
Remove the Existing Flooring/Level Subfloor
We need to get down to the original subfloor to install the new hardwood and create an ensure an even and level floor. Any original flooring and carpeting – including pad and tack strips – will be removed to get to the original subfloor. If we’re replacing tile, vinyl, or laminate it may have been laid over a layer of ¼” or ½” plywood – that also has to be removed. The subfloor will be sanded level and a layer of 15” roofing felt has to be installed produce a sound and moisture barrier.
Install the Hardwood
This will be installed to properly reach the joists in your home. Flush floor registers will be installed at this time. If we need to match up to existing hardwood in the home, we will integrate the new wood into the old wood. This will result in the new hardwood looking like it was part of the original floor.
Start the Sanding Process
After the hardwood is installed, our crew will start the sanding process. We’ll arrive the day the sanding process begins to prepare your home – with plastic over any areas that are not being refinished. Although we have dustless sanding, occasionally dust can escape into the room. So the plastic adds another layer of protection.
Sand. Buff, Prime coat
The sanders start with a more aggressive grit sandpaper to remove the current finish and debris then use finer sandpaper to produce a smooth, even surface. Finally a buffer with a very fine grit disc is used to blend any marks or scratches and create a totally even surface. We then tack ”paper” the floor to remove any debris and apply the first coat of finish. Fumes need to be removed by fans or you may want to stay outside of your home the night after this is completed.
Finishing the Hardwood
If we are finishing with water-borne polyurethane, we arrive the next morning, buff and tack the floor, apply the second coat of finish. The third and final coat of polyurethane is applied within 2-4 hours after the second coat. Finishing with oil-modified polyurethane will take an extra day. This option requires you to stay outside of your home for three nights. Burnished and waxed finishes are also available options.
